The Wrongstar Society are a live 5 piece band / DJ/ electronic production hoodlum out fit topped off with cheeky bandito voxpop, boeing-powered guitar lines and OTT bass deformation. The Society consists of Paul Era, Bass Invada, MC Mooretime, Dirty D and ESQ They have already played with The Stanton Warriors, Deekline and Wizard, Atomic Hooligan, Jay Cunning (Kiss FM) and Leeroy Thornhill (Prodigy). On top of that they have also done guest mixes on Kiss FM and Galaxy and had plays on Radio 1 and are in the process of setting up there own night in London.

Once again they deliver pulsing bass, in your face hooks and jumping vocals.   Backed up by ‘Dog Brain Soup’  another dirty bass driven stomper.  These guys just keep ‘em coming.

The Body

Snatchers

‘Feeling Good, Looking Nice,

Smelling Right’
Passenger Records

body snatchers

The Body Snatchers AKA highly respected underground production duo 30Hz and Baobinga drop their debut long player ‘Feeling Good, Looking Nice, Smelling Right’ as their bling-tastic, spaced-up, crunk-enducing alter ego and it’s been long worth the wait.

Featuring a whole host of MCs including Sporty-O, Kamikaze, Sirplus , Yolanda  and more , mixed up with various skits, a club-based album this aint. Think Urban style music with the production standards of two geniuses, two mad professors who’ve been locked in the studio formulating a super hype hybrid sound.

Clearly a duo never to rest on their laurels as well as the music The Body Snatchers decided that simply releasing music was not enough and have created a trilogy of music videos to accompany the three singles taken from this album. Approaching (and convincing!) The Arts Council to give them funding to produce a three animated shorts showcasing the intergalactic adventures of their cartoon alter egos cannot be bad in any books! (check the weblinks below!) This design will feature throughout their album / website and myspace!

With the video of their last single ‘Freaky Ho’ featuring highly on MTV Dance, their new video for single ‘Call Me’ has already racked up somewhere in the region of 170,000 (!) plays on youtube…. check the link now!

“The Ends Of The Earth” on Broke Recordings

The Ends of Earth LP

"A Great selection of artists that end up in one fat release!"- Jay Cunning Kiss FM

"There's some tasty bits on there for sure!"- Freq Nasty

The concept of “The Ends Of The Earth” project is essentially a compilation of only the best of the best, when it comes to breakbeat releases and some drum and bass, exclusively from the UK and New Zealand. The sound of breakbeat based music in these two places is extremely similar, despite the fact that they could not be more removed geographically from each other unless there were DJs playing in both the North and South poles. The Award winning Broke Recordings (Winner of Breakspoll "Breakthru Label" 2006 and "Best Remix" 2008, as well as "Best Label" nominee in 2007) showcases these countries love of bowel rupturing basslines together for the first time.In recognition of this very fact, 50% of the tracklisting emerged from below by artists inhabiting a faraway place to the south of the equator as the other 50% was descending from breaks artists from the northern reaches of the world……to The Ends Of The Earth we travel…

The release will be a work of art, not only musically, but graphically also, as Broke have commissioned the talents of US based comic book illustrator Dimi Macheras (the man behind the Radikka comic) to turn everyone involved into Marvel or DC Comic style "super heroes/villains/beings", for both the CD and the artwork for the full colour 12” vinyl picture sleeves.

UK artists featured are The Aut0b0ts, Screwface, Affinity, Unbalanced Jack ft Crown Jewelz & Killa Benz and the Original Junglist,  MC Navigator.NZ artists featured are Timmy Schumacher (Passenger / Zone) with Bex Riley (Vocals on Noisia's “Gutterpunk") and MC Kyla, Antiform featuring Tiki Taane (Ex-Salmonella Dub / Shapeshifter), MC Twincam, and hip hop deities Ethical and Neesh and world renound Dn’B producer Agent Alvin (Hospital / Full Cycle / Commercial Suicide) with Dunsta. Antiform’s “Got To Be You” single with Tiki has been further recreated into a music video which is currently doing the rounds on music television in New Zealand and soon to be released on MTV Europe.

Phil and Bren of Splitloop admit to exploring other genres when writing 'Pleasure Machine', the broadening of their horizons has had a profound influence on the Splitloop sound. "You can't be looking only to one genre to get inspiration for your music," reckons Bren. "That would just be a ridiculous feedback loop".

"We're at a stage where we really just wanted to make music we thought was really good and moving our sound forward, not worrying about what anyone else would think."

Dipping their toes into other styles of electronic music has certainly paid off for the guys. 'Pleasure Machine' has a velvety sheen, touching on modern sexy D. Ramirez-type electro-house, juddery Justice riddims, old skool electro, Plumpy breaks, bleepy Trickyesque bizness, speak 'n' spell robotica and a hell of a lot more. There's a consistency to their sound that glazes the whole album - sexy electronic dance music that'll be rocking floors from Brighton to Beijing, quite simply 'Pleasure Machine' is bang on the money.

Accumulating all the tools to soundtrack a fantastic night out, the Splitloop guys have set the dials for pleasure. The touring that's going to be accompanying this album is going to bring them into contact with a whole new set of pleasure-seeking individuals.

Bren is philosophical about their early career. "Our first studio had a broken toilet, so everything smelled like piss," he remembers. "We could never afford monitors 'cos all our money went on pills and beer. As soon as we gave up pills, we bought monitors and got signed."

Naming themselves after one of their first productions together, the guys started making a name for themselves and in no time at all, were signed to Krafty Kuts' leading breaks label Against The Grain. With a artist roster that also boasts artists such as The Freestylers, Deekline & Wizard, Ed Solo & Skool Of Thought, the guys new they were seriously starting to make waves.

What is Breakbeat

Breakbeat (sometimes breakbeats or breaks) is a term used to describe a collection of sub-genres of electronic music, usually characterized by the use of a non-straightened 4/4 drum pattern (as opposed to the steady beat of house or trance). These rhythms may be characterised by their intensive use of syncopation and polyrhythms.

History

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, hip-hop DJs (starting with Kool DJ Herc) began using several breaks (the part of a funk or jazz song in which the music "breaks" to let the rhythm section play unaccompanied) in a row to use as the rhythmic basis for hip-hop songs. Kool DJ Herc's breakbeat style was to play the same record on two turntables and play the break repeatedly by alternating between the two records (letting one play while spinning the second record back to the beginning of the break). This style was copied and improved upon by early hip hop DJs Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Wizard Theodore. This style was extremely popular in clubs and dance halls because the extended breakbeat was the perfect backdrop for breakdancers to show their skills.

In recent times, the term breakbeat has become synonymous with the many genres of breaks music which have become popular within the global dance music scene, including big beat, nu skool breaks and progressive breaks. DJs from a variety of genres, including house and techno, work breaks tracks into their sets. This may occur because the tempo of breaks tracks (ranging from 110 to 150 beats per minute) means they can be readily mixed with these genres, whereas the comparatively fast speed of jungle and drum and bass (160-180 bpm) may have restricted the utility of these subgenres to DJs playing slower-tempo music. Some artists well known for breakbeat include DJ Icey, Stanton Warriors, Deekline and Wizard, Hybrid, Huda Hudia, The Brainkiller, Paket, The Freestylers, NAPT, Pendulum, Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrem, The Breakfastaz, Ctrl Z, Freq Nasty and Plump DJ's.

Breakbeats are used in many hip hop, rap, jungle, and hardcore songs, and can also be heard in other music, from popular music to background music in car and jean commercials on the radio or TV.
