Deekline & Wizard have always been ambassadors for a strong vocal and the album is loaded with new and undiscovered talent amassed on their travels. From reggae inspired, jungle institution TopCat to UK hip hop exileFallacy; from gospel star and former Drifters member Vic Bynoe to genre jumping Canadian MC Flipside (who has spent the last decade adding his stamp to international chart toppers) and regular collaborator Yolanda,whose soulful turns on tracks including

‘Ready For Your Love’ truly showcase a new direction for the previous booty bounce specialists.A trip to the Americas threw up Detroit’s ghetto tech pioneer DJ Assault who adds his baritone twang to theminimalistic, A-Town sound of ‘One In The Front’ and ‘Keep It Pushing’, two cuts that perhaps best showcase the increased musicality their new productions offer. These musical kleptomaniacs also set off with their swag bagtravelling to Sofia in Bulgaria, where they found classically trained musician Andronia Popova. Singer and string arranger extraordinaire Andronia, was exactly what the boys were looking for and her live strings provide a depth of listening on singles ‘Angels’ and ‘Dancehall Thrilla’. In addition the latter track brought the boys fullcircle and back to London where they hooked up with achingly cool Hadouken founder and singer James

All eyes and ears are on red hot production duo Deekline & Wizard with the release of their latest single ‘Back Up (Love For The Music)’ - the last single before they drop their bootylicous new album ‘Back Up, Coming Through’ in April.

Back Up (Love For The Music)’ blends a plethora of underground sounds with powering vocals from Yolanda (Bugz In the Attic) to form a sound that is unique and quintessentially British.

Managing to balance underground credibility with chart-topping capability “Back Up” sees the boys “set to cement their position as the premier dance-floor duo that they most definitely are” – DJ Mag.

Not content with the radio friendly bounce of the album version, breakbeat boy wonder Krafty Kuts straps a nuclear powered bassline to some funky beats, adds a dubstep twist in the middle and creates, in his own words, "a f**king monster!" of a remix.

Add further heavyweight mixes from TRG and Brooklyn bass-monger AC Slater and you’ve got a package perfect for the radio and record boxes alike.

Great Scott made waves with his Bollygraph Test EP last year and follows up now with an EP of diverse tempos and edgy beats. The EP kicks off with a relentlessly funky uptempo breaks track ‘Defcon’ that will thrash many a dancefloor with it’s tight beats and rocking leads, ‘Caravan’ follows with the sort of world beat track that has had Great Scott guest performing on Bobby Frictions BBC radio show last year. ‘Theorists’ is the track showing a new side to his productions with a bass driven  bigbeat chugger featuring UK MC Raja Wilco and Nibu on the lyrics.
Great Scott is the host of “MK Ultra,” on KTRU in Houston, TX where he has hosted the likes of Hybrid and Kraddy. He has also been a regular on NSB radio , the new founder of Glitch.fm and been a resident DJ in China and was recently also one of the NuSkoolBreaks radio DJs at WMC 2009.  Strongly inspired by the sounds of old-school big beat and breaks, including the likes of Fluke, The Prodigy, and Rabbit In The Moon, Scott is constantly attempting to fuse the sounds of the old with that of the new, while trying to achieve a delicate balance between producing music that's meant to make people move, with that which inflicts various emotions and imagery.

Transverse is back again with Spanish breakers Xim N Bass. A duo that has been tearing up the floors of countless Spanish shows for the last few years. This release is just a taste of what you would hear at one of those events: a raw and nasty audio experience consisting of crunchy breaks and heavy bass. Support from: Jay Cunning, Specimen A, Takomo, Stormtrooperz, ViperX, Mars, MKM & GBX, and many others..

On "Die", XNB teams up with VIPERX. The 3 of them combined their skills to unleash a tune that  has a distinct drum and bass meets breaks sound. A shuffled / groovy beat complemented with dark distorted bass that will grab anyone's attention immediately. The track following that is Prophets, another spooky tune littered with god-like vocal samples . The beat however, has more of an electro influence with grimey saw tooth bass.

What is Breakbeat


Breakbeat (sometimes breakbeats or breaks) is a term used to describe a collection of sub-genres of electronic music, usually characterized by the use of a non-straightened 4/4 drum pattern (as opposed to the steady beat of house or trance). These rhythms may be characterised by their intensive use of syncopation and polyrhythms.


History


In the late 1970s and early 1980s, hip-hop DJs (starting with Kool DJ Herc) began using several breaks (the part of a funk or jazz song in which the music "breaks" to let the rhythm section play unaccompanied) in a row to use as the rhythmic basis for hip-hop songs. Kool DJ Herc's breakbeat style was to play the same record on two turntables and play the break repeatedly by alternating between the two records (letting one play while spinning the second record back to the beginning of the break). This style was copied and improved upon by early hip hop DJs Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Wizard Theodore.This style was extremely popular in clubs and dance halls because the extended breakbeat was the perfect backdrop for breakdancers to show their skills.

In recent times, the term breakbeat has become synonymous with the many genres of breaks music which have become popular within the global dance music scene, including big beat, nu skool breaks and progressive breaks. DJs from a variety of genres, including house and techno, work breaks tracks into their sets. This may occur because the tempo of breaks tracks (ranging from 110 to 150 beats per minute) means they can be readily mixed with these genres, whereas the comparatively fast speed of jungle and drum and bass (160-180 bpm) may have restricted the utility of these subgenres to DJs playing slower-tempo music. Some artists well known for breakbeat include DJ Icey, Stanton Warriors, Deekline and Wizard, Hybrid, Huda Hudia, The Brainkiller, Paket, The Freestylers, NAPT, Pendulum, Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrem, The Breakfastaz, Ctrl Z, Freq Nasty and Plump DJ's.

Breakbeats are used in many hip hop, rap, jungle, and hardcore songs, and can also be heard in other music, from popular music to background music in car and jean commercials on the radio or TV.
