Dexter Smith, aka Infektuous Dex, became intrigued with Electronic Music in the mid 90s. He bought his first set of Technics 1210s in 1998. At that time, he knew no one in the dj scene, he just knew this is what he wanted to do. He began teaching himself how to mix. He cut his teeth playing Epic Trance, Progressive, Funky, and Deep House. The four on the floor beat became monotonous and boring after some time. Dex's interests quickly shifted to the sound of breakbeats. He played Florida Breaks with a few Nu Skool sprinklings for several years along with some experimentation in Drum and Bass, until he found the violating and absolutely repulsive sounds of Tearout Breaks. He was immediately hooked.

Dex's philosophy on djing, and music in general, is to remain creative and innovative before you get burned out. Today, he basically plays anything that can be mixed together. He certainly does not categorize himself as strictly a "breakbeat dj". Doing "half-step, flip flop" mixes (mixing one track at half the tempo of the other track, i.e. DnB/Hip Hop, Breakbeat/Dubstep, etc.) are always a favorite mix to do for the challenge along with the philosophy of good music should be played regardless of the genre.
